Password Generator is a program to generate random passwords. You can use it to create your new email password or the password you need to protect your compressed archives.
With Password Generator you can choose the character set, this means what kind of characters you want to include in your passwords. There are three options: capital letters, small letters and numbers. You can use any of these choices or mix them. For example, your password can only have numbers or capital letters with numbers or all of them.
You can also choose the password length. The developer says that it can be any length between 1 and 20, but we tried entering bigger numbers in the password length box. That way we discovered this program can also generate strong passwords of 256 and even 1028 characters, like the one showed in the screenshot.
This program runs under Windows 98, ME, NT 4.x, 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista. Its interface is quite simple and intuitive, although it's only available in English. If you're looking for a more powerful solution, there are other programs that not only can generate strong passwords but also manage them in an encrypted file. One of these utilities is KeePass, a FREE and open source software that you should try before buying this one.
Last but not least, remember that passwords should be hard to guess. It's better to use a random generator like this one, to create your new passwords instead of using your pet's name or your birthday date. You don't want your other significant reading your compromising e-mails! Do you?
Advantages:
- It can generate random strong passwords.
Disadvantages:
- It's not FREE!
- Other programs can do the same, even better, and also manage all your passwords.
